AI-200: Developing AI Cloud Solutions on Azure Practice Tests

AI-200 is Microsoft's new developer exam — the successor to AZ-204, which retires on July 31, 2026. It validates skills in building containerized solutions, developing AI applications with Azure data management services, connecting to and consuming Azure services, and securing, monitoring, and optimizing cloud workloads. The exam launched in beta in May 2026.

Passing AI-200 earns the new Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Cloud Developer Associate credential (currently in beta). QuizPlay's free practice tests help you gauge readiness with the kinds of scenario-based, code-level, and multi-step questions you'll encounter on exam day.

AI-200 Exam Details

Succeeding AZ-204: if you were planning to sit AZ-204, note that it retires on July 31, 2026, and AI-200 is its replacement. AI-200 keeps a substantial core of Azure development skills but shifts the emphasis toward AI-powered applications. Because the exam is in beta, some logistics may still change before general availability.

AI-200 is a proctored, role-based Microsoft certification exam at the Associate level, currently offered in beta. Always confirm the latest details on the official exam page before scheduling.

Question formats

Microsoft uses a mix of question formats across role-based exams, including multiple choice, case studies, drag-and-drop, build list, and hot area (hotspot). Beta exams follow the same formats, though Microsoft does not publish the exact count or mix ahead of time, and beta items are still being evaluated.

AI-200 Exam Preparation Tips

  • Follow the official study guide. The AI-200 study guide lists every skill measured — treat it as your checklist, and re-check it before exam day since beta objectives can be revised.
  • Coming from AZ-204? A lot carries over — Azure Functions, Cosmos DB, Key Vault, and container workloads all remain core. What's new is the AI layer: Azure AI Foundry and agent development now feature prominently, so plan dedicated study time for those.
  • Work hands-on with Azure AI services. Build something real against Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI in Foundry Models, and Azure data services. Scenario questions reward practical experience wiring services together, not memorised documentation.
  • Set beta expectations. Beta exams don't return a score at the end of your session — results typically arrive weeks later, once Microsoft finishes rescoring after the beta period closes. Budget for that delay if you need the certification by a specific date.
