AZ-400: Azure DevOps Engineer Exam Guide
The AZ-400 exam (Designing and Implementing Microsoft DevOps Solutions) validates expert-level skills in delivering software through modern DevOps practice — source control strategy, build and release pipelines, security and compliance, and instrumentation. It targets engineers who combine people, process, and tooling to ship reliably on Azure.
Passing AZ-400 contributes to the Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert credential — to earn it you must also hold an eligible associate-level certification such as Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104). QuizPlay practice tests for AZ-400 are in development; the exam guide below covers what's measured today.

AZ-400 Exam Preparation Tips
- Live in pipelines. Build and release pipelines carry 50–55% of the exam — more than every other domain combined. Build real multi-stage pipelines in Azure Pipelines and GitHub Actions, including gates, approvals, and artifact versioning.
- Follow the official study guide. The AZ-400 study guide lists every skill measured — treat it as your checklist and don't skip low-weight areas.
- Know both toolchains. Questions move freely between Azure DevOps and GitHub — repos, boards, package feeds, secret management, and security scanning exist in both, and the exam expects you to choose appropriately.
- Secure the prerequisite first. The DevOps Engineer Expert credential requires an associate certification — for most candidates that's AZ-104 — so plan the order of your exams before booking.
